    Expert Review

Vizio TVs have earned their reputation for offering an outstanding blend of price and quality, with their top models frequently attaining a value for money sweet spot well out of reach of other manufacturers. In 2014, Vizio worked on improving the picture quality and Smart TV features of their M series lineup, resulting in some of the best TVs for the money available at the time. This year, they have continued this trend of improvement and value, with the entire M series model lineup offering comparably excellent picture quality, features, and overall performance. All panels in the lineup offer smoothing, and the 55-inch and smaller TVs use 60Hz back panels while the 60-inch and larger use 120Hz panels. We’ve chosen to focus primarily on the 55-inch M55-C2, but variations between the sizes are minimal unless otherwise stated.

While the design of the Vizio M series TVs isn’t quite as eye-catching as that of other manufacturers such as Samsung, its simple and minimal design is pleasant and inoffensive. Like many new TV stands this year, these TVs use a wide design, with two feet on the far edges of the TV. The Vizio M series TVs offer excellent overall picture quality thanks in part to their full-array local dimming, with very good contrast and deep black levels. Color accuracy and video processing are solid, and input lag is very low. Vizio has offered a good amount of options for tweaking picture settings to your liking, as well.

As to be expected from Vizio, content selection and features are excellent. The user interface is easy to use, and while the included remote lacks backlighting, the full QWERTY keyboard on the back is handy to have. Connectivity is also excellent, with a total of five 4K-compatible HDMI inputs - however, only one of these is compatible with both HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. Other connection include a single USB port, component video, composite video, Ethernet, RF input, and an analog audio and optical digital audio output.

If you’re willing to forego some of the flashy design of more expensive TVs, the Vizio M series in any size is an excellent way to pick up a good 4K TV while maintaining a reasonable budget. As one of the least expensive 4K TVs you can buy, this TV offers a compelling blend of price and quality.Rating: 4/5
