TCL 50" 1080p Roku Smart LED TV 50FS3800 - 2015
The TCL S3800 series is one of the latest updates to the Roku TV, blending an excellent user interface and features with decent picture quality. The TVs in this series range from 32 to 50 inches in size with only small variances in terms of performance and features. Both the 40 and 50 inch models have a 1080p resolution, direct LED backlighting, and a 120Hz effective refresh rate, whereas the 32 inch model has 720p resolution and 60Hz. For the purposes of this review we’ve focused on the 50 inch model
The S3800 series has nearly endless streaming and app options, but lacks meaningful picture controls or an Ethernet port. The expected WiFi connectivity is included, with other connections including a USB port, three HDMI inputs, a single composite AV input, optical digital audio jack, headphone output, and RF input. Although picture quality falls in the good enough range, input lag is low and the screen shows only minimal issues with uniformity.
This TV does not have image quality as its strong point, with its primary strengths being its top-notch streaming capabilities and convenient user interface. While many more casual viewers will find the quality to be good enough, those prioritizing picture quality should look elsewhere. The units overall design is simple, with stand legs out at the edges thus requiring a wide surface to place it on. Aside from this minor requirement, the TV is very simple to set up and use, including a full-function remote to get you channel surfing in no time. As a budget-friendly option for those who want the convenience over everything else, this is an excellent option.
