Sony KDL50W800B 50" 1080p 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV
Despite being one of Sony’s most affordable models in their lineup, the KDL-50W800B offers good overall picture quality and extremely low lag, making it a solid choice for gamers in particular. This edge-lit TV produces good colors and shadow details, although the black levels could be better. However, the semi-matte screen is good for bright rooms and doesn’t show evidence of uniformity issues. While the higher-end Sony KDL-W850B series has the wedge-shaped design for improved sound quality, the KDL-50W800B has a standard thin panel to create an all screen visual effect to make for a pleasant viewing experience.
Sony has included a decent amount of smart TV features with the KDL-50W800B and an updated version of their menu system makes the interface easier to use. Features include the ability to mirror a phone or tablet using Miracast, 3D capability, and two pairs of active 3D glasses are included. However, the 3D performance is very poor making the inclusion of this feature almost negligible.
Connectivity options include four HDMI inputs (one set MHL, the other ARC), two analog video inputs, two USB ports, an Ethernet port, and a digital audio output. For the price, this provides an excellent number of connectivity options for building your setup. The included remote control is decent and the TV overall offers a solid blend of performance and features for the price you’re paying.
